I Kings 11 (by Joel E. Asuncion)

Jeroboam was chosen by God to be king over ten tribes of Israel because of Solomon’s disobedience (I KINGS 11). God promise Jeroboam to give him a sure house if he obey and follow God’s commandments. Of course, Jeroboam knew why God rend the kingdom of Israel out of Solomon’s hand. He turned to other gods, the god of his wives. Jeroboam disregards this situation, the sin that Solomon committed and put Jeroboam on throne of the ten tribes of Israel. He made two calves of gold and introduces it as the one that brought them out in the land of Egypt.
Christians must take this story seriously. We make sure that we do not follow the sin of those who have gone ahead of us.
The book of 1 Kings reveals a very important lesson. It talks about the blessings in obeying and the destruction and punishment upon disobeying. We must learn a lesson from these kings and careful not to commit the sin that leads them to destruction even to the destruction of their own house.
That is why if God commands you of something, do it without adding your own ideas, just God’s, because if you do, you will be accountable for every person who follow your own ways.
Sin comes with its consequences. For this reasons, don’t play lightly with sin. Jeroboam’s sin cause his house to end, this is a concrete example of the consequence of sin.
